        "content": "<p>New faces at DPA<\/p>\n<p>From Kompas<\/p>\n<p>Observing how circumstances are evolving in our beloved<br>\ncountry, we may say that it seems it is still quite long before<br>\nits \"illness\" is cured. All efforts and attempts already made<br>\nstill cannot bring the situation back to normal, like it was<br>\nbefore the onset of this economic\/monetary crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the new members of the Supreme Advisory Council<br>\n(DPA) for the 1998-2003 term, sworn in on June 13, 1998, may<br>\ncontribute ideas to help solve the crisis. Isn't it the duty of<br>\nthe Supreme Advisory Council to provide the President with<br>\nadvice, either solicited or not?<\/p>\n<p>It is only appropriate, then, if the Reform and Development<br>\nCabinet, which is committed to eliminating practices of<br>\ncorruption, collusion and nepotism, makes efficient use of the<br>\nSupreme Advisory Council, minimizing, therefore, the need to set<br>\nup noninstitutional ad-hoc teams\/working groups.<\/p>\n<p>According to competent sources, speaker of the People's<br>\nConsultative Assembly and the House of Representatives has been<br>\nconsulted about the Supreme Advisory Council's 45 members, whose<br>\nappointment is based on a presidential decree, However, to a<br>\nlayman like me, in the present era of reform, it is necessary to<br>\nbe transparent about someone's election to a state's high<br>\ninstitution like the Supreme Advisory Council. In this respect,<br>\nclassification and criteria must be laid down for someone to be<br>\neligible for membership to the Supreme Advisory Council.<\/p>\n<p>In the present era of reform, members of the Supreme Advisory<br>\nCouncil should be made up of carefully selected people and not<br>\njust individuals with their own personal ambitions or those<br>\nseeking only prestige and social status.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, in the era of the Reform and Development Cabinet,<br>\nmembership of the Supreme Advisory Council should not be extended<br>\nto people with questionable national integrity and moral\/ethical<br>\ncommitments. If you are not ready to assume your position, be<br>\nready to withdraw.
