New drainage works for Tangerang<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: The municipal administration says remedial works in
\nthe flood-prone Gebang Raya, Periuk Jaya and Gembor subdistricts
\nof Periuk district are about to commence.<\/p>\n
The project, which is set to commence on Friday and is
\nexpected to completed next year, has been assigned to housing
\ndeveloper PT Darma Tunggal Usaha Mandiri, which is also building
\nthe Wisma Harapan housing complex on a 30-hectare site in the
\narea.<\/p>\n
\"We will dredge the Keroncong River and construct two small
\nlakes for water catchment purposes. We will also build a proper
\ndrainage system to prevent the annual flooding that has been
\nplaguing local people,\" a director of the company, Darmadi, said
\non Wednesday.<\/p>\n
At least 2,600 families live in the three subdistricts, and
\nthey have been repeatedly demanding that the administration carry
\nout flood prevention works in the area.<\/p>\n
The Total Persada housing complex is worst affected as it was
\nlocated next to the Keroncong river. It is sometimes inundated up
\nto a depth of two meters.<\/p>\n
\"This project is what we really need to deal with the floods,
\nnot packs of instant noodles,\" said Yogi, a Total Persada
