New dance group to take the stage<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A new modern dance company is to officially open
\non its premier performance Friday evening, the first of a two-day
\nshow at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ), Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
It will feature Chendra Effendy, Farida Oetoyo, Yudistira
\nSyuman and Wied Sendjayani staging their choreographies to the
\nmusic of an eight-member group headed by composer Wong Aksan,
\ndrummer of the famous alternative-rock group, Dewa 19.<\/p>\n
Kreativitat -- Dance Indonesia, led by GKJ chairwoman Farida
\nOetoyo -- comprises artists who have studied dance or music in
\nGermany. Noted choreographer Linda Hoemar Abidin is acting as the
\nconsultant audience development. Artist Teguh Ostentrik is also
\ninvolved in the production.<\/p>\n
Choreographies planned for the performance are Chendra's Asa,
\nFarida's Kontras, Yudistira's Lullaby and Wied's Ejeg Eler.<\/p>\n
The principal dancers are Aprida Darmawansjah, Christine
\nTjahyono, Mira Tedja, Sita Kristina and Chendra Effendy while
\nguest dancers are Yetty Maika, Henry Jones, Bianca Sere Pulungan,
\nSekar Arum Nirmala and Stella Marissa.<\/p>\n
Wied, who is a guest choreographer, runs the Maniratari dance
\nschool in Surakarta.<\/p>\n
Farida said that during one of her visits there she saw the
\nschool and was really impressed by the dedication of Wied's young
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
\"They all looked giggly and childish and the surroundings of
\nthe sanggar (school) looked so bad... at first I was turned
\noff,\" Farida said.<\/p>\n
\"But then, they danced. It was so beautiful, it brought tears
\nto my eyes. I knew then that they had to perform at our premiere
\nperformance.\"<\/p>\n
She said that auditions for new dancers would be held before
\nKreativitat's next project, which is still unscheduled. (ylt)<\/p>",
