New container terminal to operate soon<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Humpuss Terminal Peti Kemas, an arm of the
\nHumpuss Group, is scheduled to start operating a new container
\nterminal at North Jakarta's Tanjung Priok port in December.<\/p>\n
Soetikno Soedarjo, the president of PT Mahasara Buana (Mabua),
\nthe subholding company of Humpuss Terminal, said yesterday that
\nHumpuss Terminal will develop and operate Tanjung Priok's
\nContainer Terminal III in collaboration with state-owned PT
\nPelabuhan Indonesia II and PT Humpuss (Holding).<\/p>\n
The latter is controlled by President Soeharto's youngest son,
\nHutomo Mandala Putra.<\/p>\n
\"Humpuss Terminal is expected to become a major profit center
\nfor Mabua in the future,\" Soetikno said.<\/p>\n
The 11-year-old Mabua currently has seven subsidiaries,
\nincluding Humpuss Terminal.<\/p>\n
The other six are PT Puri Bangun Mustika, PT Tirtaartha
\nBuanamulia, PT Mabua Intan Express, PT Mandala Dirgantara
\nIndustri, PT Mabua International Limited and PT Mabua Detroit
\nDiesel.<\/p>\n
Puri Bangun has businesses in construction services. It is
\nhelping to build a railway viaduct in the greater Jakarta area,
\nand also constructing Hang Nadim international airport in Batam,
\nRiau.<\/p>\n
Tirtaartha is cooperating with Bali's water authority to
\nprovide clean water to the public and to the province's tourism
\ncenters of Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa and
\nSawangan.<\/p>\n
Mabua Intan operates the Mabua Express, a catamaran ferry
\nserving shuttle trips between West Nusa Tenggara's Lembar harbor
\nand Bali's Benoa port.<\/p>\n
Mandala Dirgantara has businesses in aircraft maintenance as
\nwell as pilot and air crew recruitment.<\/p>\n
Mabua International is involved in the tourism sector,
\nparticularly in the management and operation of the Four Seasons
\nhotel in Jimbaran, Bali. It is now constructing the Four Seasons
\nUbud, which is expected to open next year.<\/p>\n
Mabua Detroit is the main distributor for diesel engines
\nproduced by Detroit Diesel of the United States.<\/p>\n
Soetikno said that among Mabua's subsidiaries, the only one
\nthat still relies partly on subsidies from Mabua is Mabua Intan.<\/p>\n
\"We have not been able to achieve our passenger target and
\nhave brought up (ferry) rates as scheduled,\" he said. (pwn)<\/p>",
