New chief calls for professionalism<\/p>\n
SUKABUMI, West Java (JP): National Police Chief Gen. Dibyo
\nWidodo called for greater police professionalism in the face of
\nincreasingly complex crimes and social problems.<\/p>\n
Speaking to 1,500 new graduates of the School for middle-rank
\nPolice Officers (Secapa) here yesterday, Dibyo blamed a complex
\nsociety and global economy for the changes to crime.<\/p>\n
\"Police officers should continue building their skills and
\nknowledge through field experience, formal education programs and
\nself-education.\"<\/p>\n
Only then can police serve the public better and maintain
\nsocial stability and security, Dibyo said.<\/p>\n
He warned the graduates that the nature of current and future
\nchallenges facing police and the nation was vastly different than
\nthose in the first 50 years after independence in 1945.<\/p>\n
The National Police, who struggled to maintain stability in
\nprevious decades, would have to contend with new problems and
\ncrimes in the coming years, he said.<\/p>\n
Dibyo, who was recently promoted to a four-star general along
\nwith the chiefs of staff from the Air Force and Navy, praised the
\nschool for its sustainable education program.<\/p>\n
Second Lieutenant Ade Koesnadi, the top graduate, said after
\nthe ceremony that he was impressed with the education he
\nreceived.<\/p>\n
The officers were encouraged to develop more skills and
\nbroaden their knowledge, he said.<\/p>\n
\"I entered the Secapa program with minimum knowledge and
\nskill, although I did have four-years experience in the field.<\/p>\n
\"Here we were given in-depth study on investigation, police
\nlaw and the criminal code,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Ade, also a graduate from the law school in a private
\nuniversity in Bandung, was determined to apply the knowledge he
\nreceived during the education and training program to his new
