        "content": "<p>'New board must approach government'<\/p>\n<p>Musthofid, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>With Jeffrie Geovanie taking over as chairman of the Indonesian<br>\nChess Association (Percasi) on Tuesday, the country's number one<br>\nGrand Master, Utut Adianto, is urging the association to seek<br>\nfinancial support from the government.<\/p>\n<p>Jeffrie was elected chairman after winning the support of 26<br>\nof the 27 provincial chapters at the association's conference in<br>\nSemarang, Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old, who acted as deputy chairman of the<br>\nassociation last term, succeeds Machnan Kamaluddin.<\/p>\n<p>\"Given the support from the provincial chapters, which appears<br>\nto be huge, Jeffrie should not waste this momentum to carry on<br>\nwith what he already has on his agenda for national chess,\" Utut<br>\ntold The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>\"Institutions with structural links to the government should<br>\nbe approached. The government must show its goodwill toward<br>\nchess.<\/p>\n<p>\"Look, Vietnam (chess) has enjoyed total support from its<br>\ngovernment,\" Utut said, referring to Indonesia's biggest chess<br>\nrival in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\"Consolidation within the provincial chapters must also be<br>\npursued in an attempt to produce more strong players in areas<br>\noutside of Java,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The new chairman will lead a five-strong team to establish the<br>\nnew board of Percasi.<\/p>\n<p>Utut is a member of the team, despite a previous announcement<br>\nthat he intended to resign from the organization to concentrate<br>\non his chess.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is a difficult for me to reject (the offer to join the<br>\nteam). But I will have to bargain. If possible, I do not need to<br>\nbe included on the board,\" said Utut, who will compete in the<br>\nWorld Chess Championship in the Netherlands in December<\/p>",
