Google has introduced new developer verification requirements for Android applications, aimed at enhancing platform security. The new regulations apply to users in Indonesia, Brazil, Singapore, and Thailand across various major app stores.

Google has begun implementing new Android developer verification
rules as of Wednesday, 30 September 2026. Indonesia is among the
countries subject to these new regulations.

This verification serves as an additional security layer intended to
prevent irresponsible parties from spreading malicious content across
the platform. Matthe Forsythe, Director of Product Management, stated
that this launch is an effort to create a more secure ecosystem.

He explained that millions of applications have been registered since
the verification process was launched last March. This includes all
installations via Google Play as well as most those outside of Google
Play.

The latest regulations will apply to users in Indonesia, Brazil,
Singapore, and Thailand. The verification process begins across the
following app stores:

Google (Google Play)

Honor (HONOR App Market)

OPlus (OPPO App Market)

Samsung (Galaxy Store)

Transsion (Palm Store)

vivo (V-Appstore)

Xiaomi (GetApps)

A global expansion will be implemented for all applications on
certified Android devices starting in 2027.

Forsythe also added that Google is simplifying the application
registration process by launching a series of APIs. The goal is to
assist with mass application registration or direct registration through
continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

“The Android Developer ID Status API will check whether a package
name has been registered, and the Android Developer Console API allows
you to register and manage package names directly within the development
environment. Both APIs also support OAuth delegation, so third-party
platforms, such as Android app stores, can perform these operations
natively on your behalf,” he said.

These APIs are expected to be launched within the next few
months.
",
