Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued his first statement\nfollowing his country\u2019s attack on Iran on Saturday, 28 February local\ntime. Netanyahu stated that the Israeli assault, conducted jointly with\nthe United States, was launched to \u201celiminate an existential\nthreat\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a video statement released after US President Donald Trump\nannounced American strikes against Iran, Netanyahu thanked Trump for his\n\u201chistoric leadership\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cBrothers and sisters, Israeli citizens, just moments ago, Israel and\nthe United States launched an operation to eliminate the existential\nthreat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran,\u201d Netanyahu said in his\nstatement.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur joint action will create conditions for the brave people of Iran\nto take control of their own destiny,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Netanyahu subsequently called for regime change in Tehran and urged\nthe Iranian people to unite against their government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe time has come for all the people of Iran to break the chains of\ntyranny and realise a free and peaceful Iran,\u201d the Israeli Prime\nMinister stated, addressing the Iranian public.<\/p>\n
Netanyahu issued similar calls when Israel engaged in a 12-day\nconflict with Iran in June 2025.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Netanyahu emphasised that Iran must not be permitted to\nacquire nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis cruel terrorist regime must not be allowed to arm itself with\nnuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity,\u201d he\nasserted.<\/p>\n
