Net international reserves tumble<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Bank Indonesia announced on Tuesday that its net
\ninternational reserves dropped by US$374 million to $14.1 billion
\nas of Dec. 31 from the Dec. 23 level of $14.43 billion.<\/p>\n
The central bank said in its weekly report that the decrease
\nwas due to repayment of part of the government's foreign debt and
\nthe payment of a quarterly contribution to the International
\nMonetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n
The central bank said that net reserves remained above the
\nminimum level of $10.71 billion set by the IMF.<\/p>\n
BI reported that gross foreign exchange reserves, which
\ninclude net foreign exchange reserves plus outstanding foreign
\nexchange contracts, fell by $360.8 million to $23.6 billion
\nduring the same week.<\/p>\n
Net domestic assets stood at minus Rp 65.44 trillion as of
\nDec.31, an increase of Rp 6.3 billion from the previous week, but
\nstill well below the IMF adjusted target of minus Rp 32.84
\ntrillion, BI said.<\/p>\n
The central bank added that the amount of money in circulation
\nrose slightly to Rp 75.12 trillion rupiah from Rp 72.56 trillion
\na week earlier as the result of increased demand for liquidity
\nbefore the new year and prior to the Idul Fitri holiday on Jan.
\n20.<\/p>\n
The central bank said that its net claims on the Indonesian
\nBank Restructuring Agency fell to Rp 119.67 trillion from Rp
\n137.57 trillion in the same week as the result of some banks
\nrepaying liquidity support and the government converting
\nliquidity support given to state PT Bank Ekspor Impor Indonesia
\ninto an equity stake in the bank. (gis)<\/p>\n
