Neighborhood chief threatened<\/p>\n

As Chief of the Neighborhood Community (RW 07) in the Menteng
\nAtas village, South Jakarta, I was surprised to receive a report
\nfrom one of the RT heads that he had received a threatening
\nletter from the Security personnel (Drs. T.S.) of the South
\nJakarta Mayoralty.<\/p>\n
The letter states: "In relation to the complaint of Menteng
\nAtas residents, particularly those who are in the RT 13\/07
\nneighborhood unit, we would like to warn you (RT 13 head) and ask
\nyou to resign because according to the community's report you are
\nincredibly incapable of managing the neighborhood organization.
\nIf you don't care to resign from your post we will summon you to
\nthe Mayoralty or bring you to court..."<\/p>\n
I deplore the letter and wonder whether or not the security
\nofficial knows the substance of the Order of the Organization
\nconcerning Neighborhood Community. The regulation stipulates that
\nthe head of the neighborhood community is elected by the people
\nthrough consultations and mutual agreement, in compliance with
\nthe Decree of the Governor of Jakarta Metropolitan Administration
\nNo 4017, Year 1984 section seven paragraph 15 article three.<\/p>\n
Doesn't the official know that most people are reluctant to be
\nelected for the post of neighborhood community head. Besides, a
\nneighborhood head does not get a salary and is required to serve
\nthe society.<\/p>\n
I appeal to South Jakarta Mayor to pay attention to the matter
\nand protect the whole society.<\/p>\n
