        "content": "<p>Neglect of cattle punishable<\/p>\n<p>BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Governor Poedjono Pranyoto issued a<br>\ndecree recently saying people who allow their buffaloes and cows<br>\nto run wild and destroy other people's farms may be punished.<\/p>\n<p>The Antara news agency reported yesterday that the governor<br>\nmade the decision in response to some local people's complaints<br>\nabout the many \"neglected\" livestock freely roaming their yards.<\/p>\n<p>Wagiman, a resident of Sumber Mulyo village, Nakau<br>\nsubdistrict, West Lampung, said the animals also disrupt traffic<br>\nbecause they often wander the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Poedjono cited article 549 of the Criminal Code which says<br>\nthat people who let their cattle run wild and disturb other<br>\npeople or ruin crops may be fined up to Rp 25,000 (approximately<br>\nUS$ 11).<\/p>\n<p>\"But don't take the law onto your own hands by, say, killing<br>\nthe neglected animals,\" Poedjono advised people.
