        "content": "<p>Home Affairs Minister Karnavian has stated that 29 villages destroyed\nby floods and landslides in Sumatra require urgent resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 29 villages that have been lost, wiped out by landslides\nor swept away by floods, and this requires a resolution,\u201d he said during\na coordination meeting on Sumatra post-disaster recovery in Jakarta on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Karnavian explained that the issues that need to be addressed go\nbeyond just the physical relocation of residents, but also concern\nvillage governance and administration, which must be settled promptly to\nensure public services continue.<\/p>\n<p>He detailed that the majority of the lost villages are in Aceh, with\n21 villages spread across Aceh Tamiang, Nagan Raya, Central Aceh, and\nGayo Lues. Meanwhile, the other eight are located in North Sumatra,\nspecifically in the South Tapanuli and Central Tapanuli districts.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he mentioned that there are currently options for these\nvillages: either they will be rebuilt or completely removed from the\ngovernment\u2019s administrative system.<\/p>\n<p>At Wednesday\u2019s meeting, Karnavian \u2014 concurrently serving as Chair of\nthe Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration\nTask Force \u2014 also presented the progress of post-disaster recovery in\nSumatra.<\/p>\n<p>In West Sumatra, 13 out of 16 affected districts and cities have\nreturned to normalcy. Tanah Datar is nearing a full recovery, while two\nothers \u2014 Agam and Padang Pariaman \u2014 still require special attention.<\/p>\n<p>In North Sumatra, 15 of the 18 affected districts and cities have\nreturned to normal. South Tapanuli is approaching normalcy, while the\nother two, Central Tapanuli and North Tapanuli, continue to require\nspecial attention.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in Aceh, 10 out of 18 affected districts and cities have\nrecovered. Bener Meriah is nearing normalcy, while seven districts still\nrequire special attention.<\/p>\n<p>According to Karnavian, the normalcy status is determined based on\nthe recovery of government services, health services, educational\nservices, roads, economy, electricity, clean water, and river\nnormalisation.<\/p>\n<p>Three provinces of Sumatra \u2014 Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra \u2014\nwere previously hit by heavy rainfall-triggered floods and landslides in\nlate November 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) records,\nas of 18 February, the disasters claimed 1,206 lives and damaged over\n300,000 homes.<\/p>",
