        "content": "<p>Navy's stern action<\/p>\n<p>From Media Indonesia<\/p>\n<p>This newspaper carried a report on Jan. 29, 2003 under the <br>\ntitle of Indonesian navy sinks four vessels for illegal fishing. <br>\nWhat the navy has done deserves our support for several reasons.<\/p>\n<p>First, law enforcement requires firmness and courage in action <br>\nas otherwise evil practices such as corruption, collusion, <br>\nnepotism, piracy and blackmailing will continue to flourish.<\/p>\n<p>Second, firm action as demonstrated by the Navy will dismiss <br>\nas untrue the allegations that our security agencies have been <br>\ncollaborating with those looting our marine wealth. (Remember <br>\nthat the court has set free seven vessels originally detained <br>\nbecause of illegal sand quarrying. Also remember that some <br>\nIndonesian fishing vessels were burned by the Australians when <br>\nthey were caught illegally entering Australian waters.)<\/p>\n<p>In the year 2001 alone illegal sand quarrying incurred losses <br>\nto the state of US$3 billion. In the same year, the losses that <br>\nthe state had to sustain owing to illegal fishing and illegal <br>\nlogging stood at $4 billion and $2.5 billion respectively. <br>\nImagine the losses if they are sustained over the next decade or <br>\ntwo?<\/p>\n<p>In this context, all relevant government agencies must do <br>\ntheir best to utilize our marine resources to help lift the <br>\ncountry out of this protracted economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>FX INDRIATNO, Bekasi, West Java<\/p>",
