Navy clears S'baya mines<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The chief of the Navy's Eastern Armada Rear
\nAdmiral Gofar Soewarno has ordered his minesweeping unit to
\nsearch for mines that might have been placed off Kenjeran beach
\nin Surabaya during World War II.<\/p>\n
The armada's chief spokesman, Lt. Col. Kusmandar, told Antara
\nin Surabaya yesterday that the allies had anchored their warships
\noff of the beach. They guarded the area with mines.<\/p>\n
The Navy recently received a report from villagers in nearby
\nProbolinggo about finding sea mines, he said.<\/p>\n
Following this report, the Eastern Armada set up a task force
\nspecifically to clear any remaining mines off the coast of
\nSurabaya and other cities.<\/p>\n
The force includes minesweeper KRI Pulau Rupat, two units of
\nfrogmen and two units of marines, Kusmandar said. (emb)<\/p>",
