Navy, Air Force chiefs get Kopassus honor<\/p>\n
BANDUNG, West Java (JP): The Army's Special Force (Kopassus)
\nconferred its honorary command badge on Navy Chief Admiral Arief
\nKusharyadi and Air Force Chief Marshall Sutria Tubagus yesterday
\nfor their service in forging cooperation with the red berets.<\/p>\n
The awards ceremony, presided by Army Chief Gen. Subagyo
\nHadisiswoyo, was held at Kopassus Group 3 headquarters in
\nBatujajar, near here.<\/p>\n
Arief and Sutria had to trek for an hour through a muddy path
\nwith 16 hurdles as a compulsory part of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
After finishing the run, the two were awarded the command
\nbadge. They then donned the elite force's red berets and command
\nknives.<\/p>\n
Subagyo said after the ceremony that the awarding of command
\nbadge was to honor the good cooperation between the two forces
\nand Kopassus.<\/p>\n
\"The Air Force has helped Kopassus in air logistics while the
\nNavy has given many contributions to Kopassus at sea,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Asked whether Police Chief. Gen. Dibyo Widodo would also get
\nthe award, Subagyo reiterated that the decoration was conferred
\nonly to high-ranking military officials who provided services to
\nthe Army's special force.<\/p>\n
Subagyo also awarded Kopassus' air guide decoration to several
\nhigh-ranking military officers. Included among them were Chief of
\nMarine Corps Maj. Gen. Suharto, Chief of the Air Force School of
\nStaff and Command Rear Marshall Juju Juanda and Army Inspector
\nGeneral Nurdin Yusuf.<\/p>\n
The special force recently awarded former minister of defense
\nand security Gen. (ret) Maraden Panggabean with honorary
\nmembership for his meritorious service to the force in the past.
