The Indonesian government has raised the naturalisation fee for foreign nationals seeking Indonesian citizenship from Rp50 million to Rp75 million, citing a decade without tariff adjustments. Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas stated the increase, formalised in Government Regulation No. 30 of 2026, will not affect ordinary Indonesians and is part of a broader digital transformation funding effort. The minister also noted the annual quota for naturalisation applications remains capped at 1,500.

The Indonesian government has issued new regulations regarding an
increase in the naturalisation fee for foreign nationals (WNA) becoming
Indonesian citizens (WNI). Under the new rules, the naturalisation fee
has risen to Rp75 million, up from the previous Rp50 million.

The regulation is set out in Government Regulation (PP) Number 30 of
2026 on the Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenue Applicable at the
Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia.

The regulation was signed by President Prabowo Subianto on 2 July
2026 and enacted on the same date. It comes into force 30 days after
enactment. According to the annex to the regulation, citizenship by
application from foreign nationals is subject to a fee of Rp75 million
per application.

Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas explained that the policy was
adopted because the government had not raised the fee in the past 10
years.

“Secondly, the entire Indonesian people need not worry about the
increase in non-tax state revenue, which applies specifically to foreign
nationals who wish to become Indonesian citizens,” he said.

Andi further stated that the number of naturalisation slots is
limited. The maximum number each year is only 1,500 applications, and
this has no impact on the Indonesian public.

He also stressed that those wishing to become citizens must have
resided in Indonesia for five consecutive years, or 10 non-consecutive
years.

“These are naturally people who are financially capable, and you can
compare for yourselves how much it costs to become a citizen in other
countries compared to ours. The fee has gone from Rp50 million to Rp75
million,” he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Law is currently undergoing a major
transformation, which requires funding. The ministry will carry out full
digitalisation. This requires funds for equipment maintenance, as the
ministry will not rely on a single service alone. Andi said his office
has 530 public services that must be maintained.

He expressed hope that the public would not view this as a sudden
decision.
",
