The Natuna District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Natuna) in Riau
Islands has resolved a gold fencing case through a restorative justice
(RJ) mechanism. Deputy Head of the Riau Islands High Prosecutor’s Office
(Wakajati) Diah Yuliastuti stated in Natuna on Tuesday that the case
resolution via RJ was carried out after the perpetrator returned the
victim’s belongings and the victim accepted and forgave the wrongdoing
without coercion. According to her, restorative justice is an approach
to resolving criminal cases that prioritises dialogue and restoring the
relationship between the perpetrator and the victim. The resolution of
the case was marked by the handover of a Notice of Termination of
Prosecution (SKPP) to the perpetrator by the Riau Islands Wakajati at
the Natuna Prosecutor’s Office. Based on the investigation results, J
was suspected of fencing by pawning gold stolen by a perpetrator with
the initials DS. The gold received consisted of one flat chain bracelet
weighing 12.7 grams, one pair of sapy rumbay earrings weighing 0.5
grams, one bracelet weighing 1.4 grams, and four bracelet connectors
with a total weight of 3.1 grams. “The resolution of the case through
the restorative justice mechanism demonstrates the perpetrator’s courage
to admit their mistake and the victim’s magnanimity to forgive,” she
said. According to her, the total gold stolen by the perpetrator with
the initials DS reached nearly two kilograms. The theft occurred in the
first week of March 2026. The thief was then apprehended by the police a
day after the incident. “If converted to cash at that time, the total
value of the stolen gold reached more than Rp4 billion because the gold
price then was around Rp2.7 million per gram,” said Sapuari.
",
