National soccer team practices shootouts<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The national soccer team is currently practicing
\npenalty shootouts in Surabaya, East Java, under the supervision
\nof coach Rusdy Bahalwan.<\/p>\n
The team has been training for the Tiger Cup here in September
\nsince Feb. 23 and will play a trial match against team Persebaya
\nSurabaya on March 14.<\/p>\n
Following the practice match, the players will return to their
\nrespective clubs to compete in the fourth year of Indonesia's
\nleague matches.<\/p>\n
Rusdy and his assistant coaches, Nandar Iskandar and Arjuna
\nRinaldi, supervised goalkeepers Kurnia Sandi and Hendro Kartiko
\nreceive a series of penalty shootouts from the team.<\/p>\n
The All-Indonesian Soccer Federation (PSSI) appointed Rusdy
\nhead coach of the national team late last year, replacing Henk
\nWullems of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
The shootout training is the national team's first such
\npractice and is intended to help the coaches identify players
\nwith the best shootout skills.<\/p>\n
Earlier practices, held at Kenjeran beach in Surabaya, have
\nonly focussed on physical training.<\/p>\n
"We are seeking players who are good penalty shooters. Our
\nfailure in the 19th SEA Games was due to our loss in the
\nshootouts against Thailand," Nandar said Monday. Nandar is a
\nformer player of the Persib Bandung soccer club.<\/p>\n
Arjuna said the training was good to practice reflexes. "The
\ntraining is good for both the players and the goalkeepers to
