National schools of excellence<\/p>\n
Sekolah Tunas Muda has fulfilled all the mandatory
\nrequirements operate as a national plus school but the school
\nprefers to name it as national school of excellence, rather than
\nthe national plus one.<\/p>\n
\"We prefer to avoid the term \"national plus\" because it can
\nimply that the national standard is less than adequate. On the
\ncontrary, the national curriculum promotes the continuous
\ndevelopment of educational standards,\" said Nigel Robson, the
\nschool's director of studies.<\/p>\n
Sekolah Tunas Muda has been a candidate school of the IBO
\nsince July 2002 and plans to offer all three IBO programs by July
\n2006: the Primary Years Program, Middle Years Program and Diploma
\nProgram.<\/p>\n
The school incorporates the requirements of the national
\ncurriculum with the IB's three programs and emphasizes the
\ndevelopment of three essential values that guide our teaching:
\n\"It is not what we learn but how we learn that is more important;
\nIt is not what we know but how we use that knowledge that is more
\nimportant; It is not what we do but how we accomplish it that is
\nmore important.\"<\/p>\n
Robson said that the school encourages students to ask
\nquestions, to develop the motivation for inquiry and learning as
\nwell as leads them into a world of exploration and discovery. All
\nof its teachers are trained by the IBO to ensure that an active
\nand stimulating learning environment is created and maintained.
\nThe teachers use English in the primary and secondary schools for
\napproximately 70 percent of the time.<\/p>\n
\"It is of paramount importance that Sekolah Tunas Muda
\nstudents value their identity as Indonesian citizens. We hope
\nthat our students will aspire to contribute to the future
\ndevelopment of Indonesia as well as the wider world,\" Robson
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, adopting fully international curriculum, Bambino
\nInternational Pre-school combines learning center and Montessori
\napproaches. Both approaches give chances for young children to
\nlearn actively and to be self-explorer in carrying individual or
\ngroup work.<\/p>\n
\"Learning activities at Bambino are based on the best
\npractices in early childhood education. Through the philosophy of
\nHelp Me To Help Myself, children not only learn about academic
\nskills but also to be independent learners,\" said Lely Tobing,
\nthe schools Deputy Principal Montessori and Early Childhood
\nEducator.<\/p>\n
Currently, students at Bambino are from 26 countries. They
\njoin classes of Toddler for 1.5 to 3 years old children; Pre-K
\nfor 3-4 years old and Kindergarten for 4-6 years old. Most of the
\nteachers are also from other countries.<\/p>\n
Bina Tunas Bangsa (BTB) School, the first national \"plus\"
\nschool that offers International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
\nProgram in Jakarta has now evolved into a multi-faceted
\neducational institute with its new campus on Jl. Pluit Sakti,
\nNorth Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The school obtains authorization from the Geneva-based
\nInternational Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and applies the
\nIB's three main educational programs -- Primary Years Program
\n(PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and the Diploma Program (DP).
\nThe two-year IB Diploma Program is a two-year pre-university
\ncourse that helps students fulfill the requirements of
\ninternational education systems. BTB School students who hold an
\nIB diploma are accepted by over 800 universities in 85 different
\ncountries around the world.<\/p>\n
The Singapore PSB School in Indonesia applies the same
\neducational system, programs and curricula as those applied in
\nSingapore, except for a few things such as the teaching of Bahasa
\nIndonesia to comply with the regulations governing the \"national
\nplus schools.<\/p>\n
The PSB School operates schools in Bukit Gading Raya, Kelapa
\nGading Barat, North Jakarta and another one in Kebon Jeruk, West
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
Graduates of the PSB School with an acceptable pre-university
\nqualification were eligible to apply for PSB's various diplomas
\nleading to degree and master's programs offered in Singapore as
\nwell as other universities in the world since the PSB
\nqualification is recognized worldwide.<\/p>\n
The Singapore International School (SIS) has adopted strong
\nSingaporean curriculum, along before the PSB School. Established
\nin Jakarta in 1977 to accommodate children of expatriates working
\nin Jakarta, as well as Indonesian students, SIS offers high
\nacademic standards to its students.<\/p>\n
Today SIS operates in four places in Jakarta: Kelapa Gading
\n(East Jakarta), Pantai Indah Kapuk (North Jakarta), Kebon Jeruk
\n(West Jakarta) and Lebak Bulus (South Jakarta). SIS also operates
\nin Medan (North Sumatra), Cilegon (West Java) and Semarang
\n(Central Java). SIS students frequently move on to top schools in
