The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has released the\n2025 Regional Competitiveness Index (IDSD), which serves as a basis for\nregions to improve their respective competitiveness. BRIN believes that\nthe IDSD contributes to the national competitiveness index.<\/p>\n
It is known that the IDSD is measured using indicators, with most of\nthe data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). These\nindicators are used to measure four components of competitiveness: the\nsupporting environment, human resources, the market, and the innovation\necosystem. This can serve as a guide for regional leaders to understand\nthe position and direction of regional development.<\/p>\n
The Head of BRIN, Arif Satria, stated that BRIN continues to measure\nthe competitiveness index at the regional level, which then becomes one\nof the guiding principles for improving regional competitiveness.\nThrough the IDSD score, regional governments can see their level of\ncompetitiveness as a basis for improving policies and efforts to promote\nsustainable development.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, the index is once again not just about improving the\nscore, but we hope that this index can have an impact on the changes and\ntransformations carried out by regional leaders, especially in various\nfields, particularly in the economic field,\u201d Arif said in a statement on\nTuesday (24 February 2026).<\/p>\n
Therefore, Arif affirmed that BRIN has a role to play in further\nstrengthening regional innovation together with the Regional Research\nand Innovation Agency (BRIDA) and the Regional Planning, Research, and\nInnovation Agency (Bapperida), which are now present in many regions.\nThis will enable these regions to become even stronger in providing\nadded value and creating a research and innovation ecosystem.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe growth of research and innovation will become a strength for\nIndonesia in the future, because Indonesia is expected to be among the\ntop four countries in the world by 2050. There is no other way than to\nstrengthen human capital and innovation,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Arif hopes that with the release of this index, regions\nwill be even more enthusiastic about continuously improving their index\nthrough various policy measures and development programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cBRIN, through BRIDA, will certainly be ready to strengthen the\nregional research and innovation ecosystem. Of course, we will also rely\non various universities so that the existing innovations and\ntechnologies can strengthen the regional economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)\/Head\nof the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy,\nappreciated BRIN for updating the regional competitiveness index.\nAccording to him, this is important because it reflects the national\ncompetitiveness index as an initial step towards Golden Indonesia\n2045.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also hope that the Head of BRIN ensures that this index will also\nreflect the welfare of the community in the regions. So, it is not just\nan index, because an index is a number, but it also reflects the welfare\nof the community,\u201d said Rachmat.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya\nSugiarto, said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) will\ncontinue to coordinate with BRIN in providing technical assistance\nrelated to innovation in the regions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis innovation is not just a competition, but it must be integrated\nfrom planning, budgeting, to evaluation. Of course, it will require\nco-creation and the involvement of many parties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
