National Police separating the wheat from the chaff<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Police announced on Monday a
\nreshuffle of 25 high-ranking officers and 10 middle-ranking
\nofficers.<\/p>\n
The shake up includes several notable figures in the police
\nincluding Insp. Gen. Adang Daradjatun, who is allegedly involved
\nin a corruption case involving the Rp 300.77 billion National
\nPolice 1999-2000 Crash Funding Program.<\/p>\n
Adang, previously posted as the West Java Police chief, was
\ngiven a no-job position in the reshuffle by naming him as a
\nsenior officer at the National Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dadang Garnida admitted
\nthat Adang was removed from his previous position to make it
\neasier for investigators to investigate his involvement in the
\ncorruption case.<\/p>\n
"But if it's found out later that he is innocent, his name
\nshould be rehabilitated," Dadang told reporters at his office,
\nadding that the police had acted on public demands to make police
\nfree from corruption, collusion, and nepotism.<\/p>\n
The police are investigating the roles of three police
\ngenerals in the alleged mismanagement of the fund which caused
\nthe state to suffer losses of at least Rp 5.2 billion.<\/p>\n
The three generals are former National Police chief Gen.
\nRoesmanhadi, his former assistant for planning Maj. Gen. Adang
\nDaradjatun, and chief of the treasury agency Brig. Gen. Darmadji
\nS.W.<\/p>\n
Among police officers who were touched by the reshuffle are
\nInsp. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman, who was previously posted as head
\nof National Police Staff and Leaders School.<\/p>\n
Noegroho also was assigned as a senior officer at the National
\nPolice Headquarters.<\/p>\n
However, Dadang said that empowerment of a police officer
\ncould be carried out in any post.<\/p>\n
"Every officer should be ready to be posted anywhere," Dadang
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Former head of coordinators of crime investigators at the
\nNational Police, Chaeruddin Ismail, was named to replace
\nNoegroho.<\/p>\n
Dadang said that overall, the reshuffle had been conducted to
\nincrease the performance of the police.<\/p>\n
