National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has outlined peak\ntraffic accident hours that travellers should be aware of during the\n2026 Eid exodus. The peak accident period is estimated to occur around\n09.00-12.00 WIB.<\/p>\n
General Sigit made this statement during a Cross-Sectoral\nCoordination Meeting held at the Mutiara Auditorium, STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat\nPolri, on Monday (2 March 2026). With the theme \u201cSafe Exodus, Happy\nFamily\u201d, General Sigit convened with ministers and agency heads to align\nsecurity measures.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we look at it, there are still peak hours that we need to\nanticipate so that the number of accidents can be reduced. The highest\nhour is at 09.00-12.00, with 532 accidents,\u201d said Sigit at the\nvenue.<\/p>\n
He noted a decline in accident figures during the 2025 Eid exodus\nperiod, based on an Analysis and Evaluation of Accidents (Anev Laka)\nconducted by police. The number of accidents fell by 31.43 per cent,\nwith fatalities dropping 53.24 per cent. \u201cSerious injuries also\ndecreased by 7.19 per cent, and minor injuries fell by 27.85 per cent,\u201d\nhe explained.<\/p>\n
Beyond time-related factors, Sigit continued, the most dominant cause\nof accidents was failure to maintain safe distance, accounting for 1,156\ncases. Other causes included driver fatigue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis may also be caused by increased speed, but on the other hand\nthere are sometimes people who are already tired, drowsy, yet insist on\ndriving, resulting in accidents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He noted that travellers often force themselves to drive despite not\nbeing in prime condition. This will be an area of focus to ensure field\nofficers continue intensifying road safety awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is certainly an evaluation for 2026, on how we continue to\nintensify road safety awareness so that we can reduce traffic accident\nfigures,\u201d said Sigit.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, General Sigit stated that the National Police\nwill establish 779 service posts during the 2026 Eid exodus. These\nlocations can serve as rest stops for drivers who become fatigued during\nthe journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese can also be used as rest areas for tired drivers. We also\ninform drivers to utilise this facility, please disseminate this\ninformation,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
Several high-ranking state officials attended this coordination\nmeeting, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and\nCulture Pratikno, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of\nTrade Budi Santoso, and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi.\nAlso present were the Deputy Commander for Operations of the Armed\nForces, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, the Head of\nthe Meteorological Agency, and executives of state-owned enterprises\nsuch as Pertamina, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by 302 participants in person, including 28\nofficers from the National Police Headquarters and 36 regional police\nchiefs from across Indonesia. In the structure of Operation Ketupat\n2026, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit acts as the Operation\nPolicy Officer (Bijakops), assisted by Deputy National Police Chief\nGeneral Dedi Prasetyo as Deputy Officer. Technically, the operation will\nbe led by the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps General Agus\nSuryonugroho as the Chief of Main Operations. All officials of Operation\nKetupat 2026 were present at this coordination meeting.<\/p>\n
