National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the\nIndonesian National Police (Polri) has a duty to support national\nstrategic policy programmes. General Sigit noted that food\nself-sufficiency is included within these strategic programmes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that, at a glance, we can see our duties to support\nprogrammes and strategic policies for the national interest,\u201d said the\nPolice Chief following a plenary session for the ratification of the\nPolice Bill at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday\n(9\/6\/2026).<\/p>\n
General Sigit stated that food self-sufficiency is currently a\nprimary focus for President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the\ngovernment aims to reduce dependency on imports.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe food self-sufficiency, especially in the current\nsituation, is certainly a priority for the President,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\nwants to eliminate dependency on imports and ensure that moving forward,\nIndonesia can be self-reliant and meet the needs of the community to\nensure the success of the food self-sufficiency programme.\u201d<\/p>\n
Consequently, he stated that President Prabowo wants the National\nPolice to play a role in supporting programmes that are strategic to the\nnational interest.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Eddy\nHiariej explained that the Police Bill clarifies the functions of the\nNational Police, one of which is the service function. \u201cThe Bill states\nthat this is an example of the service function, because the function of\nthe police worldwide is to protect and to serve. Therefore, it falls\nunder the scope of service,\u201d said Eddy.<\/p>\n
Previously, the House of Representatives (DPR RI) ratified the\nrevision to the Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002\nconcerning the Indonesian National Police. This decision was made during\nthe 21st plenary session of the fifth session of the 2025-2026\nlegislative period. The meeting was held in the plenary hall of the\nNusantara II Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (9\/6\/2026).\nThe ratification took place during the second-level discussion agenda,\nwhich was also attended by government representatives and National\nPolice Chief Listyo Sigit Prabamin.<\/p>\n
