        "content": "<p>National Police Chief Apologises to the Public: Members Who Undermine\nJustice Will Be Dealt With<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yeni Lestari\/VIVA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit\nPrabowo, has conveyed an apology to the public for the behaviour of some\nofficers that has been deemed to undermine public trust and justice.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was made during an iftar event and the distribution of\ndonations to orphans, together with members of the press at the Rupatama\nPolri Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday, 25 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p>At this event, Sigit acknowledged that every action of the National\nPolice is always under public scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to apologise if, in our daily activities, there may be\nactions by some of our members, whether intentionally or\nunintentionally, that have undermined public trust and justice,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did he apologise, but the former Head of the National\nPolice\u2019s Criminal Investigation Unit also affirmed his commitment to\nreforming the institution. He ensured that the National Police will not\ntolerate any violations of the law or actions that damage public\ntrust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not hesitate to take firm action to protect our beloved\ninstitution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sigit also asked all members to be more responsive to public\ncomplaints, especially those conveyed through the media. He emphasised\nthat the voice of the press represents the voice of the public, which\nmust be addressed immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are fully aware that the voice of the press is the voice of the\npublic. We must take swift and responsive action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also assured that the National Police is open to criticism and\nevaluation in order to maintain its mandate in maintaining security and\npublic order (Harkamtibmas), as well as carrying out law enforcement\nprofessionally.<\/p>",
