National Police Chief Apologises for Instances of Police Officers\nUndermining Public Justice<\/p>\n
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has\nexpressed his apologies to the public for instances where police\nofficers have acted in ways that undermine public justice.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by the National Police Chief during an iftar event\nand donation to orphans together with members of the press at the\nRupatama Polri Building, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (24\/2).<\/p>\n
In his speech, Sigit acknowledged that all actions of Polri members,\nwhether intentional or not, will always be under public scrutiny.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn this occasion, I would like to express my apologies if, in our\ndaily activities, there may be actions by our members that, whether\nrealised or not, undermine public justice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sigit affirmed that this apology is accompanied by a continued\ncommitment to internal reform. He promised that they will not tolerate\nany members who are proven to have committed legal violations or acted\nin a way that offends the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe promise that for actions that undermine public justice,\nespecially those that constitute violations, we will not hesitate to\ntake firm action to protect our beloved institution,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
He stated that this is the commitment of the Polri institution to the\npublic and the press, which also serves as a supervisory partner.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, he also highlighted the important role of the\nmedia in voicing public aspirations. Therefore, he has instructed all\nranks to quickly respond to any complaints that arise in the public\nsphere.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo matter how small the voice from our friends, it is a cry from the\ncommunity, a cry from the public, a complaint from the community, an\naspiration from the public, which we must address with quick and\nresponsive action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sigit affirmed that Polri is always open to criticism and evaluation\nin order to maintain its mandate in maintaining security and public\norder (Harkamtibmas) in the face of a global situation full of\nuncertainty.<\/p>\n
