        "content": "<p>Industry players in the mining sector continue to prove that mining\noperational areas can become innovation spaces for implementing circular\necosystems that benefit environmental sustainability. At the opening of\nthe International Environment Technology and Innovation Expo and\nConference (Invirotech) 2026, Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat stated\nthat businesses have a vital role in promoting the adoption of clean\ntechnology and accelerating the circular economy to address various\nenvironmental challenges. According to him, technology and innovation\nmust be part of tangible solutions supporting both industrial and\nenvironmental sustainability. Through exhibitions, discussion forums,\ncoaching clinics, workshops, business matching, and various other\neducational activities, INDO ENVIROTECH serves as a platform to see how\ntechnology can address real environmental problems. \u201cThe business world\nhas an important role in applying clean technology, improving\nenvironmental compliance, and accelerating the circular economy,\u201d Jumhur\nsaid at the opening of INDO ENVIROTECH 2026 in Jakarta. He added that\nthe technology developed must provide tangible benefits for the\nenvironment. \u201cTechnology must help industry meet its environmental\nobligations,\u201d he said. In practice, a number of mining industry players\nhave begun implementing waste management programmes that are not only\noriented towards compliance but also creating added value for the\nenvironment. One example comes from MIND ID Group member PT Aneka\nTambang Tbk (ANTAM) through the Smart Waste Bank programme, which\nintegrates community-based waste management. Through a structured system\nof collection, sorting, and processing, waste collected by the community\ncan be converted into Logam Mulia gold savings. Organic waste is\nprocessed into various useful products such as compost, kasgot,\nbiocleaner, and maggots. Throughout 2025, the programme recorded the\nabsorption of approximately 63 tonnes of inorganic waste, making a\npositive contribution to reducing waste in the surrounding community\nenvironment. Another initiative is run by MIND ID Group member PT Bukit\nAsam Tbk (PTBA) through the Bara Agro Circular Programme, which\noptimises non-productive land formerly used for illegal mining\nactivities into an integrated agricultural area. This programme applies\nthe 9R concept and an integrated circular system, where waste from one\nactivity is utilised as input for another. For example, quail manure is\nprocessed into organic fertiliser for plantations, while maggots\nproduced from organic waste processing are used as animal feed and\nfishery feed. Another MIND ID Group member, PT Freeport Indonesia\n(PTFI), developed the Joint Transformation Centre, a recycling-based\nwaste processing facility built through collaboration with community\nfoundations around the operational area in Gresik, East Java. Through\nthis programme, wood and iron waste from smelter construction activities\nare processed into products such as tables and chairs, which are then\ndistributed to support social programmes, including for orphans and\ncommunity empowerment activities. This minimises construction waste\ndischarged into the environment. These various initiatives demonstrate\nthat waste management in the mining sector plays a role in reducing\nenvironmental impact, whilst also being capable of creating sustainable\neconomic and social benefits. This approach simultaneously reaffirms\nthat the mining industry and environmental sustainability are mutually\nsupportive and can be implemented through appropriate innovation and\ncollaboration.<\/p>",
