The National Library (Perpusnas) has assured that the 2026 budget efficiency measures will not compromise the quality of its public services, both in-person and digital, including enhancements to the iPusnas application. Despite a budget reduction to approximately Rp377.9 billion, core services remain prioritised, with non-essential activities scaled back to optimise resource allocation. This approach underscores Perpusnas's commitment to innovation and efficiency in delivering knowledge-based services amid global challenges.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Library (Perpusnas) has emphasised
that the 2026 budget efficiency policy will not impact the quality of
public services, whether on-site or digital, including the iPusnas
application, which continues to be strengthened.

Perpusnas Chief Secretary Joko Santoso stated that the institution
remains committed to providing the best services to the public in
response to the growing energy efficiency issues in society amid the
global crisis.

“The budget efficiency occurring in 2026 does not reduce Perpusnas’s
commitment to delivering the best services to the public. Public
services will continue to operate optimally, both directly and
digitally,” Joko said in Jakarta on Monday.

Perpusnas recorded a 2026 budget allocation of approximately Rp377.9
billion, which is a decrease compared to the previous year.
Nevertheless, Perpusnas ensures that core services remain the top
priority in budget management.

On-site visitation services continue to run normally, with an average
of around 2,500 daily visitors, increasing to 3,000 on weekends.
Meanwhile, digital services remain widely accessible to the public
without restrictions.

In response to the budget reduction, Perpusnas is making adjustments
by reallocating programme priorities. Non-priority and ceremonial
activities are being reduced or rescheduled, while programmes that
directly impact the public continue to be implemented.

Expansion programmes, such as book assistance to villages and
strengthening community libraries, are temporarily postponed until
budget conditions allow. This policy is taken as a strategic step to
ensure that available funds are utilised optimally.

“The adjustments made are not a cessation of services, but rather a
strengthening of focus on programmes that provide direct and broad
benefits to the public,” Joko said.

“Improvements to iPusnas are being carried out comprehensively to
ensure more secure, stable, and sustainable services in the future. This
is not related to the budget efficiency policy,” he added.

Perpusnas ensures that various digital services remain available and
optimally accessible to the public, including iPusnas, e-Resources,
Indonesia OneSearch, and BintangPusnas Edu. These services remain an
important part in supporting broad access to information.

Although there are adjustments to the procurement of new collections,
access to digital collections and scientific journals remains
guaranteed. This demonstrates that knowledge-based services remain the
top priority.

“The budget adjustments actually encourage Perpusnas to enhance
efficiency, innovation, and the quality of digital-based services,” Joko
said.
",
