National legislation program<\/p>\n
Minister of Justice Oetojo Oesman reminded us of the need to
\naccelerate the development of new laws or a \"national
\nlegislation\" program. According to the minister, a national
\nlegislation program would make Indonesian laws compatible to the
\ndevelopment of society and would revise colonial law remnants.<\/p>\n
As the era of industrialization takes over the agrarian era,
\nlaws must be able to meet economic, scientific and technological
\nadvances. In the investment sector, for instance, the investors
\nneed legal certainty, not simply profits.<\/p>\n
In the context of legal certainty, it is highly necessary for
\nthe law making body to take inventory of the old colonial laws
\nand determine what should be done to update the already obsolete
\nlaws. Many suggest that all the colonial laws be annihilated
\nsince they no longer serve the purposes of today's changing
\nsociety.<\/p>\n
The Justice Minister stressed that the matter is not that
\nsimple since all the laws will have to be translated from old
\nDutch into Bahasa Indonesia. This will, by no means, be an easy
\njob.<\/p>\n
Based on that fact, we will support any idea to integrate the
\nefforts among related agencies to carry out a national
\nlegislation program. For this, the availability of equipment and
\nfunds is highly essential.<\/p>\n
