National holiday<\/p>\n
The five-day week has been implemented for several months now,
\nmaking Saturday a holiday in addition to Sunday. We thank the
\ngovernment for this ruling. However, what if a public holiday
\nfalls on either Saturday or Sunday? In this case I would like to
\npropose to the minister of administrative reforms and the related
\ninstitutions that if a national holiday falls on Saturday or
\nSunday, the Monday should be declared a holiday. The reasons for
\nthis are as follows:<\/p>\n
* Every year there are about 12 national holidays. If any of
\nthem fall on Saturday or Sunday and are not transferred to the
\nfollowing Monday the workers are disadvantaged.<\/p>\n
* In 1996, there are six national holidays that fall either on
\nSaturday or Sunday. For example, the coming Idul Adha holiday
\n(April 28, 1996), falls on a Sunday. It would be more
\nadvantageous if the following Monday was declared a holiday.<\/p>\n
* This is common practice in the United States.<\/p>\n
* We would all benefit from this. Among other things, offices
\ncould save on electricity, water and phone bills, etc. I hope the
\ngovernment considers this matter.<\/p>\n
