Three major items dominate Tempo's national coverage: a decline in teachers' salaries in 2026 linked to shrinking central-to-regional education budget transfers; plans by Universitas Indonesia students for a 'Weekend Melawan' protest; and growing calls for Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP). Data show that while total education expenditure rose, the share transferred to regional governments fell sharply, risking PPPK salaries. A broader mobilisation among students and civil society is pressuring President Prabowo Subianto to exit BoP amid regional tensions.",

Of that, transfers to the regions and village funds amounted
to Rp 346 trillion or 52.82 percent. From total education budget Rp 769
trillion, transfers to the regions shrank to Rp 264 trillion or only
34.33 percent. “This means that although total education budget rises,
the share transferred to the regions actually falls drastically,” Iman
said when contacted on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Iman stated that the reduction in transfers affected more than 500
local governments that experienced reduced education funding.
