        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Energy Council (DEN) member Sripeni Inten\nCahyani has stressed that nuclear energy is a necessity that will drive\nIndonesia\u2019s economic growth and sustainable development in the future.\nSpeaking during a panel discussion entitled \u2018American Leadership in\nClean Nuclear Strategy\u2019 at <span class=\"citation\" data-cites=\"america\">@america<\/span> Jakarta on Tuesday, Inten explained\nthat the development of new energy sources, including nuclear power,\nmust be seen as part of an increasingly urgent national need, as many\ncountries are now developing nuclear energy. \u2018If almost all countries\nare heading in that direction, then in my view, there is no harm in us\nbeing part of it. Otherwise, it would be futile, and currently we need\nelectricity with large capacity to be an economic driver, for economic\ngrowth; that is actually the key word,\u2019 she said. Based on data compiled\nby DEN, the level of support for nuclear energy use in Southeast Asia\nfor Indonesia is only around 39 per cent. Therefore, she considers\npublic awareness to be crucial for Indonesia to develop a nuclear energy\nindustry. Inten also called on the younger generation to help shape\npublic understanding of future energy needs. She believes young people\nare able to view energy issues more objectively based on national\ndevelopment requirements. \u2018This young generation can think clearly, can\nsee that this is actually a need and this is the future. A need and the\nfuture; and then they just need to be asked to be firm,\u2019 she said.\n\u2018There are those who still express doubts about safety and so forth. We\nactually live with nuclear every day. When we get an X-ray, there is\ndirect exposure (electromagnetic wave radiation) to us, just in a small\ncapacity,\u2019 Inten added. The National Research and Innovation Agency\n(BRIN) has successfully identified 28 potential locations for the first\ndevelopment of nuclear power plants. Among the 28 locations, three have\nundergone the entire evaluation process, with one location in Jepara,\nCentral Java, and two other locations in Bangka Belitung.<\/p>",
