National education committees formed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of National Education has set up
\ntwo committees to review and revise a number of regulations and
\nlaws concerning the educational arena.<\/p>\n
\"The Committee for Education Reform will work on the nuts and
\nbolts issues while the Committee for National Education will work
\non the philosophical basis involved as well as the concepts and
\nstrategies to be applied,\" Minister Yahya Muhaimin said.<\/p>\n
The two committees will work on several strategic issues and
\nprepare drafts of revised regulations, as well as adding more
\nmeat to the bones of such issues as the role of the private
\nsector in education, campus autonomy, globalization, transparency
\nand decentralization.<\/p>\n
\"The National Education Committee is being initiated by the
\nWorld Bank and will be participated in by all the stakeholders
\nwhile the reform team will consist of young observers of
\neducational affairs,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Both teams will also work with the existing National
\nEducation Advisory Board (BPPN) which consists of senior
\neducation experts and has been working for many years,\" Yahya
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Later in the day, Minister Yahya installed Atwi Suparman as
\nthe new Open University (UT) rector replacing Bambang Sutjiatmo
\nat the University's campus in Pondok Cabe, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The university has recently been hit by a series of diploma
\nforgeries in which its awards have been forged by certain
\nparties.<\/p>\n
\"There are reports of 24 false diplomas issued by schools
\nwhich claimed to be UT branches last year,\" UT deputy rector
\nSubagyo said after the ceremony.(edt)<\/p>",
