        "content": "<p>National Awakening Day trophies presented<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI)<br>\nyesterday conferred five awards for this year&apos;s best articles<br>\nabout National Awakening.<\/p>\n<p>The Harkitnas Award, named after National Awakening Day which<br>\nfalls on May 20, is considered one of the most prestigious press<br>\nawards after the Adinegoro award.<\/p>\n<p>Suara Pembaruan, a Jakarta afternoon daily newspaper, received<br>\nthe award for best editorial in commenting on the significance of<br>\nNational Awakening Day with this year&apos;s 50th national<br>\nindependence anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Hendro Basuki, a journalist with the Suara Merdeka daily in<br>\nSemarang, won the general category for his article that linked<br>\ntax, nationalism and democratization.<\/p>\n<p>I.B. Sudiarta, a journalist at the Nusa Tenggara daily in<br>\nDenpasar, won the reporting category with his article portraying<br>\nthe lives of villagers in Pangembangan, Bali, amidst a stench of<br>\nfish.<\/p>\n<p>Fachrul Rasyid, a reporter at the Gatra news weekly in<br>\nJakarta, was given the special category award for his recent<br>\narticle about Sulasih, Indonesia&apos;s first woman author, who died<br>\nlast Saturday at the age of 87.<\/p>\n<p>The best writing for the history category was won by Tjoet Lam<br>\nof Higina, a health magazine in Jakarta, for his article on the<br>\nlate president Sukarno.<\/p>\n<p>The award is jointly sponsored by PWI, the Ministry of<br>\nInformation and the Institute of National Resilience<br>\n(Lemhannas)<\/p>\n<p>Parni Hadi, PWI&apos;s Secretary General and Program Director of<br>\nthe Harkitnas award contest announced the winners, each of whom<br>\nwon Rp 750,000 ($325) in cash, and a trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Director for Press and Graphics Subrata, representing Minister<br>\nof Information Harmoko, called on PWI to include television and<br>\nradio reporters in future selection.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that PWI in its congress last year agreed to begin<br>\nadmitting television and radio reporters into its membership and<br>\nto draw up a new code of ethics governing the profession, both in<br>\nprint and electronic media.
