        "content": "<p>Nation glued to MPR broadcasts<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR, Bali: Live broadcasts of the General Session of the<br>\nPeople's Consultative Assembly (MPR) should top television<br>\nratings, at least for viewers in this land of paradise.<\/p>\n<p>People from all walks of life here say they spend their nights<br>\nwatching the live broadcast of the Assembly sessions. The first<br>\nfour days of the event, which began on Oct. 1, saw the sessions<br>\ngo beyond midnight.<\/p>\n<p>\"Those are my favorite TV program now,\" student Komang Tantra<br>\nsaid over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Cell phone trader A Siong concurred.<\/p>\n<p>\"I love to watch several Assembly members interrupt President<br>\nB.J. Habibie's speech. This never happened in the past,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>But many of the people deplored the way security troops have<br>\nhandled student demonstrations outside the Assembly compound.<br>\nEight people have been killed, and over 100 others injured in a<br>\nseries of rallies that have marred the General Session.<\/p>\n<p>\"The students just want to make sure their aspirations are<br>\nchanneled by their representatives,\" said housewife Chandrawati.<br>\n(05)<\/p>",
