NasDem Commission II Deputy, Ujang Bey, has criticised the official\nvehicle budget for East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas\u2019ud, which amounts\nto Rp 8.5 billion. Ujang argued that leaders should be more sensitive to\nthe situation facing the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this is merely a matter of sensitivity to the situation.\nTrue leaders must prioritise a sense of crisis management and avoid\ncontroversy amongst the public,\u201d Ujang told reporters on Thursday (26\nFebruary 2026).<\/p>\n
Ujang called on the Interior Ministry to summon Rudy, saying the\ncontroversy should not be allowed to drag on.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Interior Minister should call and discuss matters with the East\nKalimantan Governor. This official vehicle controversy should not be\nprolonged; it should simply be aligned with principles of\nappropriateness and function,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ujang cautioned that policies on official vehicle procurement should\nnot create negative perceptions amongst the public, particularly when\ninfrastructure problems persist in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must avoid a situation where people say: if the roads are\ndamaged, then the governor\u2019s car quality should match the road\nconditions,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, leaders must be able to face these challenges by improving\nconditions that are already their responsibility\u2014undertaking development\nin their region,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Rudy Mas\u2019ud has already responded to the Rp 8.5 billion vehicle\nprocurement budget, stating that the acquisition follows proper\nregulations and is intended to uphold East Kalimantan\u2019s dignity.<\/p>\n
The Rp 8.5 billion budget was initially explained by East Kalimantan\nRegional Secretary Sri Wahyuni. According to Antara news agency on\nTuesday (24 February), Sri stated that the procurement plan had\nundergone careful consideration based on operational requirements and\nthe effectiveness of the regional head\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
She said the operational vehicle is intended to reach areas of East\nKalimantan with extreme geographical characteristics. She explained that\nthe governor\u2019s official vehicle must be capable of traversing difficult\nterrain in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Governor is committed to directly monitoring every issue in\nremote areas. For example, during a visit to Bongan, he wanted to\npersonally assess the road conditions complained about by residents.
