Nana ordered to explain RI stance<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri asked Indonesian
\nAmbassador to Britain Nana Sutresna on Thursday to explain
\nIndonesia's opposition to military strikes against Afghanistan by
\nthe U.S. and its allies during Ramadhan.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists after meeting Megawati, Nana said it
\nwas his duty to communicate the Indonesian government's stance on
\ncontinued attacks during the Muslim fasting month.<\/p>\n
"It is my duty to communicate to the British government our
\nposition against the strikes during Ramadhan. As the most
\npopulous Muslim country in the world, we understand the
\ndifficulties Afghans face during the holy month," he said.<\/p>\n
Nana said that the President had also asked him to explain
\nthat Indonesian Muslims were not as radical as most foreigners
\nthought because the majority of the Muslim population were
\nmoderate.<\/p>\n
The British government has conveyed an invitation for Megawati
\nto visit the country next year to boost investment to Indonesia.
