The earthquake disaster emergency post in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa\nTenggara (NTT), has stated that it is prioritising the distribution of\nlogistical aid for vulnerable groups and evacuation points with the\nhighest density, amid limited supplies of basic necessities for\nresidents affected by the earthquake.<\/p>\n
Johanes D. Kristianus, the person in charge of the Nagekeo Emergency\nPost, said when contacted from Kupang that a number of vital needs are\ncurrently still limited, especially rice, eggs, mineral water, and tents\nfor temporary shelter for evacuees.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe available logistics are prioritised for vulnerable groups such\nas the elderly, toddlers, pregnant women, and sick residents, as well as\ngathering points with the highest density,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that, up to the fourth day of emergency response\nhandling, one of the main challenges faced in distributing aid is that\nevacuation locations are spread across various areas.<\/p>\n
According to him, some residents also choose to evacuate\nindependently at the homes of other residents, family members, or\nrelatives, so more coordinated data collection is needed so that aid can\nbe distributed accurately.<\/p>\n
To overcome these obstacles, his office has asked all village and\nsub-district governments to proactively act as regional commands in\ncollecting data on the needs of affected communities.<\/p>\n
He said that aid management is carried out in an integrated manner\nthrough the Main Post, while village and sub-district governments\ncoordinate to collect aid allocations according to the needs of\nresidents in their respective areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince yesterday, representatives of regional and village leadership\nhave begun coordinating and collecting aid allocations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Johanes said his office is targeting at least 70 percent of village\nand sub-district governments to have completed the collection procedure\nand verification of logistical needs for displaced residents.<\/p>\n
In addition to establishing a priority scale, the Emergency Post is\nalso implementing a response time limit to accelerate the handling of\naffected communities\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cVerification and coordination of villages is a maximum of three\nhours from the report or the presence of the village head at the Main\nPost,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, for the distribution of aid to points categorised as\ncritical, the target is a maximum of 1x24 hours after the needs data is\nverified by the local regional government.<\/p>\n
Johanes urged village and sub-district governments that have not yet\ncoordinated with the Main Post to immediately carry out integrated data\ncollection and manage logistical allocations for communities affected by\nthe earthquake.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also opening space for synergy for all parties, donor\ninstitutions, and volunteers to support the availability of basic\ncommodities and evacuation tents to ease the burden on our brothers and\nsisters in Nagekeo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding the current number of evacuees, there are 6,221 earthquake\nvictims in Nagekeo.
