JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The legal advisory team for former Minister of\nEducation, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has objected\nto the appearance of Meidijati, Head of the Subdirectorate for General\nTax Provisions and Forced Collection under the Directorate General of\nTaxes at the Ministry of Finance (Dirjen Pajak Kemenkeu), as a tax\nexpert in the continuation of the trial for the alleged corruption case\ninvolving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe expert does not meet the qualifications as an expert as\nstipulated in Article 1 number 51, both letters A and B (New KUHAP), and\ntherefore the expert\u2019s testimony has no legal force as evidence. We\nrequest that this be considered by the honourable panel,\u201d stated\nNadiem\u2019s legal advisor, Dodi Abdulkadir, during the hearing at the\nJakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (30\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Dodi said that Meidijati\u2019s educational background is not related to\ntaxation.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, Meidijati explained her educational background: a\nBachelor\u2019s in Economics, Master\u2019s in Public Policy, and Doctorate in\nAccounting.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs explained earlier, the expert does not have a degree or academic\ncertificate related to taxation,\u201d said Dodi.<\/p>\n
The advocacy team also raised the issue of Meidijati\u2019s background,\nwhich does not mention the field of education digitalisation.<\/p>\n
The presiding judge, Purwanto S Abdullah, stated that the objection\nfrom the advocacy team would be noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cLater, regarding other matters, we will focus solely on taxation,\nand not proceed to matters unrelated to the expert\u2019s expertise,\u201d said\nJudge Purwanto.<\/p>\n
In this case, former Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim, along with\nthree other defendants, is said to have caused state financial losses\namounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.<\/p>\n
Nadiem is charged with enriching himself by Rp 809 billion.<\/p>\n
This figure is said to stem from Google\u2019s investment in Gojek or PT\nAKAB.<\/p>\n
Nadiem is alleged to have abused his authority, making Google the\nsole controller of ICT procurement, including laptops, in Indonesia\u2019s\ntechnology ecosystem.<\/p>\n
This was done by directing the procurement study towards a single\nproduct, namely Chrome-based devices, which is a Google product.<\/p>\n
