        "content": "<p>CORRUPTION TRIAL proceedings regarding alleged corruption in laptop\nChromebook procurement, or the Chromebook corruption case, within the\neducation digitalisation programme have resumed at the Corruption Court\n(Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n<p>In the trial session held on Tuesday, former Minister of Education,\nCulture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim is scheduled to\nappear as a crown witness.<\/p>\n<p>Nadiem will provide testimony as a witness against three defendants\nin the case: Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, Sri Wahyuningsih, and\nMulyatsyah.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Prosecution at the Attorney General\u2019s Office, Special\nCriminal Division, Riono Budisantoso, stated that Nadiem\u2019s presence is\nnecessary to provide testimony in the case against other defendants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, the person in question will be heard as testimony in the case\nof other defendants,\u201d Riono told journalists on Tuesday (10 March).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Nadiem, the prosecution also presented several other\nwitnesses, including former special staff of the Education Minister\nFiona Handayani and member of the Technical Analysis Team for\nInformation Technology Learning Equipment Requirements in the Chromebook\nprocurement, Stefani Nadia Purnama.<\/p>\n<p>The case concerns alleged corruption in the education digitalisation\nprogramme through the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome\nDevice Management (CDM) devices within the Ministry of Education,\nCulture, Research, and Technology during 2019-2022.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution alleges that the defendants\u2019 actions have caused\nstate losses of approximately 2.18 trillion rupiah. This amount\ncomprises 1.56 trillion rupiah related to the education digitalisation\nprogramme at the Education Ministry, and losses of approximately 44.05\nmillion US dollars, or approximately 621.39 billion rupiah, resulting\nfrom the CDM device procurement that was deemed unnecessary and provided\nno benefit to the programme.<\/p>\n<p>In the indictment, it is stated that the three defendants allegedly\ncommitted unlawful acts together with several parties, including Nadiem\nand former special staff of the Education Minister Jurist Tan.<\/p>\n<p>These actions included the procurement of information\ntechnology-based learning facilities in the form of Chromebook laptops\nand CDM devices in fiscal years 2020, 2021, and 2022, which were deemed\ninconsistent with procurement planning and violated principles of\ngovernment goods and services procurement.<\/p>\n<p>For their actions, the defendants are charged with violating\nprovisions of the Anti-Corruption Law, specifically Article 2 paragraph\n(1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18, as well as Article 55\nparagraph (1) subsection 1 of the Criminal Code. They face prison\nsentences and obligations to pay compensation for state losses\nincurred.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution\u2019s examination of witnesses is aimed at clarifying the\nplanning, implementation, and procurement process of Chromebook laptops\nand supporting equipment.
