Jakarta \u2014 Nadiem Anwar Makarim, Education, Culture, Research and\nTechnology Minister for the 2019-2024 period, has asserted that he never\nagain interfered with the affairs of PT Gojek Indonesia after taking\nministerial office.<\/p>\n
This is because, he stated, whilst serving as minister, his\nshareholding, which originally could have given him greater authority or\ndecision-making rights, was converted into ordinary shares.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter that, those voting rights were given and fully delegated to\nKevin and Andre,\u201d Nadiem said whilst giving testimony as a crown witness\nduring proceedings at the Anti-Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta\nDistrict Court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, Nadiem noted that as one of Gojek\u2019s two co-founders,\nKevin Aluwi and Andre Soelistyo were free to make decisions regarding\nGojek corporation without consulting or seeking his approval.<\/p>\n
He also stated that he never exercised a veto or approved any\ndecisions within Gojek corporation since October 2019, even as a\nshareholder.<\/p>\n
He explained that he relinquished his position at Gojek because the\nministerial role was extremely important and required extraordinary\neffort to avoid conflicts of interest in any respect.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why the letter transferring those voting rights states so\nclearly that Kevin and Andre do not need to seek my approval,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Nadiem is a crown witness (witness and simultaneously defendant) in\nrelation to three defendants: Ibrahim Arief, also known as Ibam, Sri\nWahyuningsih, and Mulyatsyah.<\/p>\n
In the case alleging corruption in an education digitalisation\nprogramme involving procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device\nManagement (CDM) systems within the Education Ministry during 2019-2022,\nthe three defendants are suspected of causing state losses worth Rp2.18\ntrillion.<\/p>\n
The losses comprise Rp1.56 trillion related to the education\ndigitalisation programme at the Education Ministry, plus 44.05 million\nUnited States dollars, equivalent to approximately Rp621.39 billion,\nresulting from unnecessary and non-beneficial CDM procurement under the\neducation digitalisation programme.<\/p>\n
It is alleged that the three defendants committed these unlawful acts\njointly with Nadiem and former Special Staff member of the Education\nMinistry Jurist Tan.<\/p>\n
The unlawful acts carried out by the defendants included procurement\nof technology and communications-based learning facilities in the form\nof Chromebook laptops and CDM systems during fiscal years 2020, 2021,\nand 2022 that did not comply with procurement planning and various\nprocurement principles.<\/p>\n
