        "content": "<p>Nabire (ANTARA) - The Nabire Regency Government, in Central Papua\nProvince, has involved cross-sector government agencies down to the\nvillage level to actively participate in accelerating malaria\nelimination in order to reduce transmission of the disease. Silas Elias\nNumobogre, head of the Nabire Regency Health Office, in Nabire on\nThursday, said cross-sector support is needed so malaria management can\nbe undertaken in an integrated manner and address the various factors\ndriving transmission. \u2018All parties in Nabire Regency must be actively\ninvolved in eliminating the increasingly rising malaria cases,\u2019 he said.\nIn this context, village heads up to all regional apparatus\norganizations (OPD) are asked to play roles appropriate to their\nresponsibilities in supporting the malaria control programme. For\nexample, Nabire\u2019s Public Works Department (PU) will help repair water\npooling and drainage channels that could become breeding grounds for\nmosquitoes, while the Health Quarantine Office (BKK) conducts screening\nat airports and seaports. Additionally, village governments are\nencouraged to utilise village funds to support malaria elimination\nprogrammes in their respective areas. \u2018Malaria control must be tailored\nto each sector\u2019s remit. Everyone has a role,\u2019 he added. The Nabire\nRegency Government has issued a Circular Letter on Accelerating Malaria\nElimination, signed by Regent Mesak Magai on 19 February 2026. The\nRegent\u2019s Circular Letter No.\u00a0400.7.9.1\/252\/Sek of 2026 on Accelerating\nMalaria Elimination states the obligation of all OPD, district\ngovernments, the PKK Steering Team, and village heads to actively\nparticipate in malaria control in their respective areas. The circular\ninstructs every element of government to take a role through\nenvironmental interventions, community education, and strengthening\nhealth service delivery. Alfred Lambey, head of the Prevention and\nControl of Communicable Diseases (P2P) Section at the Nabire Health\nOffice, said the circular provides a legal basis for all sectors to move\ntogether in accelerating malaria elimination. \u2018With this circular, all\nsectors can undertake environmental interventions and health promotion\nin villages about the dangers of malaria,\u2019 he said. He added that\ncooperation with health service facilities (fasyankes) in each region is\nkey to the programme\u2019s success, including the use of village funds for\npriority health programmes. Novi, the person in charge of the Malaria\nProgramme at the Nabire Health Office, stressed that malaria directly\nconcerns the safety of future generations. In 2025, 790 babies and\ntoddlers contracted malaria and 108 cases occurred among pregnant women.\n\u2018Malaria is very dangerous, especially for pregnant women and young\nchildren. The disease can cause severe anaemia, bleeding during\ndelivery, miscarriage, preterm birth, and low birth weight babies,\u2019 he\nsaid. Therefore, local government hopes that cross-sector collaboration\nand active community involvement can expedite malaria elimination while\nprotecting vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, babies, toddlers,\nand the elderly.<\/p>",
