Jakarta \u2013 CNBC Indonesia reports that the death of Mango founder Isak\nAndic has shocked Spain again. His eldest son, Jonathan Andic, was\narrested after a court detected indications that the businessman\u2019s death\nwas not merely an accident during a mountain hike. Jonathan Andic was\nrequired to pay bail of \u20ac1 million (about Rp18 billion) before being\nreleased pending further proceedings. He is accused in connection with\nhis father\u2019s death on 14 December 2024 in the Montserrat mountains,\nnorth of Barcelona.<\/p>\n
Initially, police treated Isak Andic\u2019s death as a tragic accident.\nThe founder, aged 71 at the time, reportedly fell about 150 metres from\na cliff while hiking with Jonathan. However, the inquiry progressed\nafter a judge in Martorell stated there was \u2018sufficient evidence\u2019 to\nsuspect that Isak\u2019s death was not an accident and that Jonathan was\nactively involved and had planned it. Jonathan has denied the\nallegations.<\/p>\n
According to BBC International on Thursday (21 May 2026), in his\nstatement to police Jonathan claimed he was walking ahead as he heard\nrocks sliding and saw his father fall. But weeks later investigators\nre-interviewed him for three hours amid several inconsistencies.<\/p>\n
Investigators also noted that the location of the fall did not match\na typical slip; the route is considered safe and commonly used by\nfamilies and school groups. The position of the body and the injuries\nwere inconsistent with a standard fall; forensic reports described\nIsak\u2019s body as appearing to slide with his feet first.<\/p>\n
Jonathan\u2019s statements were inconsistent; he sometimes said he was far\nahead of his father, and at other times that they were close together.\nHe also claimed his father was taking photographs before the fall, yet\nIsak\u2019s phone was found in his trouser pocket.<\/p>\n
Suspicion grew after it emerged that Jonathan had visited the site on\nthree occasions in the days leading up to the incident. The judge deemed\nthese visits as indicating \u2018planning and site study\u2019.<\/p>\n
Investigators looked into the father-son relationship, particularly\nin relation to Mango\u2019s business. Isak Andic planned to form a charitable\nfoundation, which was suspected of provoking tensions. According to the\ninvestigating judge, Jonathan is suspected of \u2018emotional manipulation\u2019\nfor economic gain and had shown resentment towards his father.<\/p>\n
Jonathan insisted his relationship with his father was good. The\nAndic family publicly defended him, saying there was no conclusive\nevidence proving his guilt. Jonathan\u2019s lawyer, Crist\u00f3bal Martell, said\nthe murder theory was implausible and would unfairly stigmatise an\ninnocent man.<\/p>\n
