Myanmar replies again<\/p>\n
We are referring to Vitit's article on March 2, 1995 (in
\nBangkok on Feb. 18, 1995). Most of the distortions in the article
\ndo not merit a response.<\/p>\n
The mischief in this insidious article lies in the thrust to
\ncause misunderstanding and conflict between Thailand and Myanmar,
\nand also between Myanmar and some ASEAN nations.<\/p>\n
Whatever fiction they attempt to create, they will not
\nsucceed. Because all the well-staffed Asian, and even Western,
\nembassies in Yangon, and many foreign visitors, know the true
\nsituation, the reality and the truth about Myanmar. Cleverly
\nwritten distortions will fail -- as it is now failing rapidly.<\/p>\n
The quite visible political objective of this group is:<\/p>\n
* to slander and blacken Myanmar's image, and to isolate the
\ncountry;<\/p>\n
* to create misunderstanding and conflict between Myanmar and
\nits neighbors;<\/p>\n
* to chip away with concerted attempts which they hope will
\nlead to disunity and chaos, and disintegration of Myanmar; they
\nhave to use the cover of democracy, human rights, etc., to do
\nthat. (As they had strongly supported the KNU previously).<\/p>\n
Finally, despite changes in political systems and leaders
\nThailand and Myanmar have unfailingly tackled with restraint and
\nwisdom the complex and sensitive issues inherent in a long common
\nborder. Vitit and his associates should not also ignore the
\nwisdom of His Majesty the King of Thailand who expressed his
\nbelief against discord between the two neighbors a few years ago:
\nMyanmar respects and subscribes to the same view.<\/p>\n
