Myanmar junta sends condolences to RI<\/p>\n
MYANMAR: Leaders of Myanmar's ruling junta sent a message of
\ncondolence to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over
\nthe crash of a jetliner in his country that killed 143 people,
\nofficial media reported on Friday.<\/p>\n
Junta chairman Senior Gen. Than Shwe, deputy chairman Gen.
\nMaung Aye and Foreign Minister Nyan Win offered their sympathy to
\nSusilo and other Indonesian officials over the loss of life and
\nproperty caused by the accident, the Myanma Ahlin newspaper said.<\/p>\n
The Mandala Airlines jetliner bound for the Indonesian capital
\nof Jakarta crashed on Monday in the city of Medan and burst into
\nflames.<\/p>\n
Indonesian forensic experts say 99 passengers and crew died in
\nthe disaster, and 44 people were killed on the ground.<\/p>\n
Myanmar's junta, which customarily sends messages of
\ncondolence following disasters abroad, has remained silent about
\nthe damage and casualties caused by Hurricane Katrina in the
\nUnited States, which maintains economic sanctions against
\nMyanmar, also known as Burma.<\/p>\n
The party of detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi
\nsent a message of sympathy to the American people after the
\nhurricane, which lashed states along the Gulf of Mexico and
