My two sons are studying at the University of Indonesia (UI)
\nand I, too, have taken extension courses at UI before.<\/p>\n
From our own experience studying at UI, I regret to have to
\nsay that many UI lecturers are not committed to their teaching
\nprofession. Many of them teach there for a variety of other
\nreasons. Some of them, for example, are multi-level marketing
\nagents and often neglect their duties as lecturers.<\/p>\n
Our experience also shows that many lecturers are often absent
\nand usually ask the students to come on other days, forgetting
\nthat the students also have tight schedules. Paper-writing
\nsupervisors, for example, cannot find time for consultation and
\nare willing to guide only students writing about popular topics
\nthat have been explored by earlier students.<\/p>\n
The management of the university must collect input from UI
\nstudents so that they can clearly understand the problems that
\nthe lecturers are faced with. In this way, they can get proper
\ninformation about what the lecturers need and pay them properly
\nso that there will be no more moonlighting among these lecturers.
\nThe university must employ lecturers that can devote themselves
\nfully to teaching, reading, research and publishing. Money will
\nno longer be a big deal as long as the students are sure that
\ntheir lecturers are fully dedicated to their profession.
\nProfessionally dedicated lecturers deserve to be properly paid.<\/p>\n
