Muslim hard-liner abducted, son says<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Abu Jihad alias Tengku Fauzi Hazdi Geudong, dubbed
\nthe Southeast Asian leader of the terrorist network al Qaeda, has
\nbeen abducted, his son said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
"We have identified those who took my father away. We have
\nearly indications that some police personnel were involved (in
\nthe abduction)," Abu Jihad's son Tengku Lamkaruna Putra told
\nreporters on Tuesday at National Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n
Lamkaruna went to the National Police to report his father's
\ndisappearance and submit his findings regarding the alleged
\nabduction for further police investigation. It was the second
\ntime Lamkaruna had reported the case to the police within a week.<\/p>\n
International Crisis Group (ICG) director Sydney Jones has
\nidentified Jihad as the region's al-Qaeda leader. He went missing
\non Feb. 22 after a group of unidentified people took him away,
\nalong with two of his colleagues identified as Edi Putra and
\nAhmad Saridup, from the Hotel Nisma in the Maluku capital of
\nAmbon.<\/p>\n
Edi and Ahmad are reportedly activists of a group intending to
\nestablish an Islamic state in Indonesia (NII), while Abu Jihad is
\none of the founders of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).<\/p>\n
Despite his alleged activities, no charges have been laid
\nagainst Jihad.<\/p>\n
Accompanying Lamkaruna to National Police Headquarters were
\nhis mother Elvi Zakaria and lawyer Muhammad Ali. -- JP<\/p>",
