Musicians set up club to exchange ideas<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Local performers of different music styles and
\nages have agreed to establish a club, scheduled to be inaugurated
\nTuesday by Minister\/State Secretary Moerdiono, a popular patron
\namong local artists.<\/p>\n
Dhani Widjanarko, chairman of the club, told The Jakarta Post
\nover the weekend that the club had nothing to do with politics or
\nany sociopolitical organizations.<\/p>\n
\"This group will not involve itself in political campaigns for
\nthe coming election,\" Dhani said.<\/p>\n
But individual club members will have the right to take part
\nin any political activities, said Dhani of Gigi band.<\/p>\n
The inauguration of the club dubbed Musisi, short for
\nMusyawarah Insan Musik Indonesia (Indonesian Musicians Meeting
\nClub), will take place at Poster Cafe on Jl. Gatot Subroto.<\/p>\n
The usually crowded discotheque will be closed to the public
\non the day, said Dhani.<\/p>\n
Jazz musician Indra Lesmana, an executive of the new group,
\nsaid yesterday that the main purpose of setting up the club was
\nto help musicians solve problems and encourage them to keep
\ncreating great music.<\/p>\n
\"Musicians could use this club as a forum to exchange ideas
\nand discuss problems, such as royalties, which is still new to
\nmany musicians here,\" said Indra.<\/p>\n
According to Dhani, the club will hold an annual discussion,
\nsuch as workshop, at different places throughout Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"We, for example, might ask a member of a foreign band touring
\nhere to give a short course about their skills and experience for
\nlocal musicians,\" Indra said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia has had many entertainers' organizations, some of
\nwhich have became a right wing of certain political groups.<\/p>\n
Some existing organizations may take part in the campaigns for
\nthe May 29 general election. The official campaign period starts
\nnext month.<\/p>\n
\"Founding the club isn't intended to compete with existing
\nsimilar organizations. We just hope the club can be used as a
\nforum for organizations to exchange information,\" said Dhani.<\/p>\n
Dozens of bands and musicians, including those from Bandung
\nand Medan, will perform at the inauguration of the club, said
\nclub spokesman Tagor Siagian, adding that \"There will be around
