Museum to stage colonial drama<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Museum Sejarah Jakarta will perform a theatrical
\nreconstruction of history titled, Stadhuis 1629: a historical
\nreconstruction, on Aug. 4.<\/p>\n
A media release from the Museum stated on Friday that the
\ndrama, which would be featured in all museums of Jakarta, was a
\ntrue love story between a Dutch East Indies Company (VOC) soldier
\nand a girl, which ended tragically.<\/p>\n
The VOC was a trading company during the Dutch colonial era,
\nwhich had a monopoly in Indonesia from 1602 to 1799.<\/p>\n
The historical drama, which will be the first of its kind in
\nIndonesia, will also feature Jan Pieterszoon Coon, the founder of
\nJakarta, members of the court council and VOC troops.<\/p>\n
It is said that most of the actors were selected from among
\nforeigners living in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The performance is aimed at promoting museums to the public,
\nwho mostly regard them as boring places.<\/p>\n

\nbe entertained as well as learning a lesson from history,\" said
