        "content": "<p>Museum receives grants from Japan<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government has donated Rp 980<br>\nmillion (US$449,541) worth of equipment to the Jakarta textile<br>\nmuseum to help facilitate its function as the center for textile<br>\neducation and information.<\/p>\n<p>The donation was officially given by the Japanese ambassador<br>\nTaizo Watanabe to deputy governor of Jakarta R.S. Museno in a<br>\nceremony at the museum on Jl. Jati Petamburan, West Jakarta,<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To win public trust as a qualified center for valuable<br>\ntraditional textile storage and preservation the museum needs to<br>\nstep up its capabilities,&quot; said Watanabe.<\/p>\n<p>Museno thanked the Japanese ambassador for the donation,<br>\nmostly photographic and office equipment, saying that it would<br>\ngreatly help develop future museum programs.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The museum has taken the right step by sending its managers<br>\nabroad to study the preservation of textiles,&quot; he added.<\/p>\n<p>The textile museum, which was set up in 1976, collects,<br>\npreserves and displays traditional textile items from provinces<br>\nin Indonesia. It also keeps  files of  research studies and<br>\ndocuments on textiles.<\/p>\n<p>There are around 1,000 traditional textiles from all over<br>\nIndonesia in the museum along with nearly 900 waving devices.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the museum, Puspita Sari W. said that the new<br>\nequipment will allow them to become more active and conduct more<br>\nservices.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will open two classes on textile preservation next year<br>\nfor two terms,&quot; Puspita said, adding that the course will be<br>\nattended by around 40 people.<\/p>\n<p>She also said that in addition to government money, the museum<br>\nwill need additional funding to conduct its daily activities.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Ideally we need around Rp 30 million every month to operate<br>\nthe museum. Unfortunately funds given by the government are not<br>\nadequate,&quot; Puspita told reporters. She refused to divulge the<br>\namount provided by the government.<\/p>\n<p>Puspita said that it is time the museum set up a foundation to<br>\nhelp raise public funds. (yns)<\/p>",
