Munir probe takes aim at bank accounts<\/p>\n

A special fact-finding team said on Wednesday that the Financial
\nTransaction and Report Analysis Center (PPATK) was ready to help
\nexamine bank accounts of suspects in the poisoning death of noted
\nhuman rights activist Munir.<\/p>\n
Team chief Brig. Gen. Marsudi Hanafi said the promise was made
\nin a meeting on Tuesday with PPATK deputy chairman Brig. Gen.
\nSusno Duadji.<\/p>\n
The pledged examinations of the accounts are aimed at finding
\nany suspicious transactions related to last September's poisoning
\nof Munir on board a Garuda Indonesia flight.<\/p>\n
\"He (Susno) has vowed to help us check bank accounts belonging
\nto four persons who may have been involved in the case, including
\nformer Garuda president director Indra Setiawan,\" Marsudi said.<\/p>\n
The team believes that there might have been money transferred
\nto those accounts, by the masterminds of the murder, as payment
\nfor facilitating the poisoning.<\/p>\n
\"PPATK will examine their accounts and if there are any
\nsuspicious transactions, they'll analyze them and submit a report
\nwith us,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The move comes after Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Budihari
\nPriyanto was officially declared a suspect by the National Police
\nfor his alleged role in \"facilitating\" the murder of Munir, and
\nforging documents linked to the case.<\/p>\n
Munir, cofounder of human rights watchdogs Imparsial and
\nKontras, was found dead aboard the Garuda flight to Amsterdam on
\nSept. 7.<\/p>\n
An autopsy conducted by Dutch authorities found excessive
\namounts of arsenic in his body, indicating that he may have been
\ngiven the poison on the one-hour leg of the flight from Jakarta
\nto Singapore.<\/p>\n
Police were developing the investigation in order to obtain
\nsufficient evidence to charge other Garuda executives in the
\nhigh-profile case.<\/p>\n
The fact-finding team has proposed seven names -- five Garuda
\nofficials and two National Intelligence Agency (BIN) officers --
\nto the police, as persons of interest.<\/p>\n
The five Garuda officials include Pollycarpus, Indra Setiawan
\nand secretary to Garuda's chief of pilots Rohainil Aini, who is
\ncurrently being questioned by the police. The remaining two are
\nformer vice president of corporate security Ramelgia Anwar and
\nvice president of human resources Daan Ahmad.<\/p>\n
\"We suspect that Daan is also involved in the case since he
\ntemporarily replaced Ramelgia during that time. We're now
\ninvestigating his track record,\" Marsudi said.<\/p>\n
The team is scheduled to meet BIN officials on Thursday to
\nseek clarification on whether Pollycarpus was linked to BIN as
\nwidely rumored, as well as to get information on two BIN agents,
\nwho the police refuse to publicly name.<\/p>\n
Separately, head of the police investigation team Sr. Comr.
\nAnton Charlian said that no links were found so far between
\nRohainil and Munir's death.<\/p>\n
Rohainil has been fielding questions for the past four days
\nafter police accused her of lying about Pollycarpus' assignment
\nletter.<\/p>\n
Investigators found that the letter was issued more than a
\nweek after the flight, and that it was signed by Ramelgia Anwar
\ninstead of the operational director, as is normally the case.<\/p>\n
Anton said the police would summon the recently replaced Indra
\nSetiawan and Ramelgia Anwar for similar questioning next week.<\/p>",
